Project64 is a Nintendo 64 emulator for Windows PCs. This emulator, which recreates the Nintendo 64 platform so that games can be played on Windows, is arguably the most stable and best working Nintendo 64 emulator out on the field. In order to play actual commercial games one has to have a ROM file for the game that is going to be played. Legal implications aside (if you have a ROM image you must own the game for it to be considered a legal ROM), this is a great application that recreates the feel and touch of the Nintendo 64. Project64 plays games at full speed and in full screen seamlessly. The user only has to add a directory with ROMs in it, and the emulator will pick them up and boot them just like the N64 would. No adding system files or modifying executable files is required. The main aspects in which this emulator ups the ante are simplicity of use, and also playability. Just install the application, select a ROM and you can be playing in a matter of seconds. Project64 works with most gamepads, or you can use the keyboard. Sound is great and 3D is overall perfect, considering that 3D was in diapers back when the Nintendo64 was introduced. This is a great emulator for all those who want to remember the oh so great times in which Nintendo 64 ruled the living room. |
